Plug Roon into the riot
The host plugin is a small program that runs on a computer on your home network. It shows up in Roon as an extension, pairs with your Roon Core, and connects your hi-fi to your party room. Guests never need it.
Before you install
- A Roon Core running on your home network
- A Windows PC on the same network as the Core (it can be the Core machine itself)
- That PC needs to reach the internet so it can talk to Roon Riot
- A room created at Start a Riot, which gives you a Room API Key
Install in four steps
Unzip and run.
Extract the download anywhere you like and run RoonRiotPlugin.exe. Windows may ask to allow it
through the firewall: say yes, that is how it discovers your Roon Core on the local network.
Enable it in Roon.
Open Roon and go to Settings → Extensions. You will see ROON RIOT waiting for approval. Press Enable, then open its Settings.
Paste your room key.
Copy the Room API Key (it starts with rmx_) from your room's setup screen into the extension
settings, along with the Roon Riot address shown there. Save. The status line should read
"Connected to ROON RIOT room" within a few seconds.
Pick a zone and open the doors.
Back on the room setup screen, the plugin shows as connected and your Roon zones appear. Choose the zone the party will hear, press Open the Room, and share the code. The hosting guide covers the rest of the night.
Mac, Linux or NAS?
The plugin is a Node.js program, so it runs anywhere Node 18 or newer runs. Install Node and git, download the
source, then from the plugin folder run npm install, npm run build and
npm start. Configure it in Roon exactly as above.
One plugin serves one room at a time. When a room closes, the plugin goes idle. Start a new room, paste its key into the extension settings, and you are back in business.
